I do have to say I didn't particularly care for the narrators voice for Brian, but that's the only real issue I had with the narration. This was quite the fluffy love story since there wasn't all that much angst, but I still found that I liked it more than I normally do such light stories since there was the whole unexpectedness of Brian being Marcus' mate. Rejected by his parents, kicked out of his pack and now his car breaks down on his way south. ![]() I really enjoyed watching Brian open up as he became more and more comfortable with Marcus and their mating. Brian Townsend was having one hell of a week. However, somehow, it all comes together so perfectly. Marcus is dealing with a mate that wasn't the expected gender. needless to say there is a whole lot of drama that goes on. Marcus, who has always thought he was straight suddenly finds his mate is a man. ![]() Rejected by his parents, kicked out of his pack and now his car breaks. then he finds Marcus, his mate, who only makes it worse. These chapters were so good because the last time we saw Sofia she was in a lot of trouble and appeared to let the devil fully possess her, as if she accepted it as her fate. Berkley gains Sofia Flores as her roommate and in the before chapters she shares some of their interactions. The majority of the story takes place with Berkley and her friends in Italy but there are several chapters from her time in the institution. After recently being released from the institution, Berkley is struggling to feel normal around her friends and get a hold on her grip back to reality and freedom. Berkley and her friends learned more about this history throughout the book and the story of Lucia. ![]() There was a really cool and creepy history to the small city of Cambria, where Berkley and her friends were visiting. Unfotentuly that is not where this story went, but it was so much better! So, I definietly expected a Vatican exorcist. For some reason when I learned that Berkley was going to Italy, and knowing this is a story about possession, my mind immediately went to Rome. This book was actually so different than I expected. I won’t say I’m surprised so much as dejected by this discovery. Guess I spoke too soon last time, because Cyra’s chapter are written in first person. Oh, and before I get started: say hello to the first person narration. It’s hard to recap the plot since, as I mentioned, each chapter takes place on a different year, and they set the stage for Cyra as character and the world she lives in, rather than really inform the plot. So I hope you’re all as anxious to meet Cyra as I am, and more importantly, to take a deep dive into Shotet culture, which I’m sure will be completely respectful and not feel like a big racist allegory. ![]() And we’re going back in time to do so, because…I don’t know, the book really wanted to have an actiony opening, but also wants to spend time detailing one protagonist’s life from ages six to fourteen at a rate of almost one chapter per year.
