The Shotet are looking more and more like a nation from this angle. I won’t say I’m surprised so much as dejected by this discovery. Guess I spoke too soon last time, because Cyra’s chapter are written in first person. Oh, and before I get started: say hello to the first person narration. It’s hard to recap the plot since, as I mentioned, each chapter takes place on a different year, and they set the stage for Cyra as character and the world she lives in, rather than really inform the plot. So I hope you’re all as anxious to meet Cyra as I am, and more importantly, to take a deep dive into Shotet culture, which I’m sure will be completely respectful and not feel like a big racist allegory. And we’re going back in time to do so, because…I don’t know, the book really wanted to have an actiony opening, but also wants to spend time detailing one protagonist’s life from ages six to fourteen at a rate of almost one chapter per year. Today, we’re meeting our second protagonist.
